Brookside Bird Lady

I saw this statue along the Brookside Trolley Track Trail. The Bird Lady is located at 52nd street and has a weekly change of bird statues at her base. She is often dressed up for holidays.

The statue was purchased and installed as part of a beautification effort in collaboration with the KCATA in the early 1980's. The statue is of the Greek goddess Hebe, who is the goddess of youth.

For a few years it was used as a geocache hotspot, where people are encouraged to take a bird/leave a bird. The site is no longer active, but locals seem to have kept the tradition going.
