Garage Work

Allison likes to tinker in the garage while Nathan tidies up or does yard work at the front of the house.

 Nathan got some old bike tires from our former landlord and he split them and attached them to Allison's gator so to give it better tread.

Nathan's Birthday

These pictures are from Nathan's 35th birthday. He had a really stressful week of work and didn't want to have a party so I picked up some specialty desserts from a local bakery and Allison and I decorated the house.

American Royal

Today was Allison's first first grade field trip. I volunteered to be a driver (mainly because I was excited about our destination). We went to the American Royal in the old stockyards area of Kansas City.

The complex had several arenas, one with vendors, one with small animals (cows, sheep, mules, ponies) and demonstration booths (how to spin wool in yard, how to milk a cow), and a riding arena for the the rodeo.

The kids did a great job at listening at all the demonstrations, even when they weren't super exciting.

We ate our lunches in the rodeo arena and were able to watch barrel races and some roping competitions. It was a fun show.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Apple Picking

Nathan had to work today, and my friend, Kristen, was looking for a friend to go to an apple orchard with her. I agreed happily. She drove us (and the 3 kids) to Cider Hill, an orchard 30 minutes outside the city.

It was a really cute place, it reminded me a lot of Great Lakes Farms, near where I grew up. There was a small stand that sold cider slushies and apple donuts, a store that sold farm themed gift ware,  a BBQ area that had apple wood smoked pulled pork served on cider donuts! We snacked on everything.

We took a tractor ride out to the apple trees and searched for perfect Jonathan apples. The rain held off for the most part of our trip but we still managed to get quite wet in the drizzle.

 

 

After lunch the kids fed the ducks at the pond. Allison's love of animals is so strong. She's not interested in anything exotic (the zoo bores her) but give her a cat to follow around and she's happy.

 

After a day at the orchard we headed to a small group meeting with some church members. We had a Whitefield student babysit all the kids present. We drove the sitter home at the end of the night and when we pulled into the driveway there was a cat sitting there. Natalie told Allison it was a stray. Allison looked to us and said, "So it needs a HOME?"

It's only a matter of time before her fish isn't cutting it anymore.
