At a very early 28 weeks we welcomed our son, J.R. to the world. Nathan was away in Baltimore, my Mom was in Florida, and my Dad was in the fields, so my friend Ashley (my hero!) took me to the hospital, gowned up, and held my hand through the surgery and recovery. It was a scary day that came without warning, but when I saw him, all the pain (but not the fear) went away.
Nathan arrived home the next morning and together we chose to use my father's name (John) for our son's first name, and our dear friend Brother Carlton Riley's name for our son's middle name. I always knew I wanted to name a child John, and when we lost Brother Riley last year, who was such an amazing inspiration to us over our 20 months on Saba (and through many phone conversations after we left the island), we knew how we wanted to honor our dear friend and self proclaimed "prayer warrior".
J.R. is teeny-tiny, but already a fighter. He is so beautiful and although we wish we could have met him a couple of months from now, we are thankful that he is here and that we are parents again. We will have to take each day as it comes and there will be many hurdles to overcome but we are so in love and we know that we are provided for.
Thank you for all your prayers and support- they are much needed and appreciated in this blessed but stressful time.
