Today after a particularly moving sermon after a particularly difficult week I needed to get out of the house. Nathan managed to power through his weekly assignment so that we could go for a Sunday afternoon drive. When we start out on our adventures, Nathan usually says, "let's go find water!" We drove to the "Kansas side" and meandered through some small towns and ended up in a park in Leavenworth. At the Kansas landmarks that we stopped at there was a phone number with an extension that gave you a tour of the landmark. It was a great tool and we used it for all our stops. What a great tourism idea!
We stopped at a the historical home of Moses Grinter, which was also the first post office in Kansas and also acted as the first trading post since it was on the ferry route. It was such an educational day. Nathan even rang the bell!
The small towns were really small. There were alot of trains and rail yards. There weren't many people out and about today so we felt really alone in these kinda creepy places.
The park we ended with was gorgeous. All the fall colours, the cool breeze, and the feeling like we were the only two in the world was just what we needed to start another week.
