Holland Part Nine

This last Holland post is just a collection of reflections on my trip.

Holland Fashion:
  • tights and skirts (no bare legs)
  • pale pink and faded denim were the hot colors
  • leather bomber jackets on women
  • no women over 25 had long hair
  • women were very little/no makeup
  • most people show their ankles (roll up/cuff pants)
  • pleather pants were a big trend
  • shiny rose gold shoes or accents on shoes were popular
  • more women over 40 had grey hair than in North America (less dyed hair)
  • 3/4 length puffy sleeves were in every shop window
  • mixing of patterns (polka dots and stripes)
  • no scruff or lose/unkempt hair on men
  • no beards or man-buns
  • popular brands are puma, adidas, and esprit
Street Views
  • the sidewalks go right up to the houses but people always have their blinds open
  • many decoration in windows (for such a simple society, there is a lock of knick-knacks and stuff)
  • unlike North America, the people in towns aren't overly friendly. I would pass someone and smile and say "hello" and they would just turn away
  • you don't tip there because the servers all make a living wage
  • the sidewalks are very narrow and everyone parks their bikes on the sidewalks so often they are unusable
  • no lines dividing the very narrow roads
  • there are street light for cars, bikes, and pedestrians
  • bikes always have the right of way (over pedestrians)
  • most things are open between 10am-5pm, 5 days a week
  • slanting, sinking houses often have stability posts built form one house to the next

I took these photos to show the different paths I walked while in Holland.
