The Rollercoaster

Although the road is long, these past few days have been smooth riding. JR was getting stronger, breathing on his own (he even ripped out his own ventilator tube in the middle of the night) and being very active. I was able to hold him each day and he had doubled his feeds.

However, as is typical with babies (or anyone) in an ICU environment, infections and illness are a huge threat. JR got sick and had to be put back on the ventilator and the stress of the illness caused a domino effect with other health issues. I think getting a phone call in the middle of the night from the hospital is the worst conversation a parent can ever have. It's been scary and we're taking it hour by hour. I spend full days at his bedside praying and watching over him. Although he has been set back to where he was when he was first born, we understand this is part of the growing process and that there will be highs and lows.
