Duck Derby

Nathan had the day off and since we haven't spent much time together these last few weeks, we decided to pack as much into this time as we could.

Last night we went to our Pastor's home. His wife, April, made us a delicious meal and we were able to relax and chat knowing we didn't have to rush home to prepare for the next day. April and Adam have 3 daughters, but two are in Alabama with April's parents. Their youngest has been missing her sisters and so she loved having us over to visit.

This morning we left the house at 9:30am and drove 20 minutes to Gezer Park in Leawood, Kansas for the 4th annual Duck Derby. Mr. Stinky Feet, a local children's performer (who I love and was stoked to find out he was performing today) was there, free face painting, drinks and treats from a local bakery, and a Duck character that Allison couldn't decide if she was scared of or not.

 

 

It was $5 for a duck and we excited to play. While we waited for the race to start (in the narrow water path that would around the park), Allison snacked and played on the playground. It was great because it wasn't an overpopulated event. So often in KC, the kid activities are packed with people and the day gets stressful. There were only a couple of hundred people at the park so there was room to play and watch the duck race.

Our duck didn't win but it was a fun event.

For dinner tonight, we made the long trek into the backyard to have dinner with our landlord and her husband Phill, who just found out they are expecting a little boy this fall!

Annie made us homemade pizza and salad. I love that she's back living in KC. Annie is amazing and I always spend the majority of time with her laughing.

Nathan's time off was short, but since this is his last week of residency (followed by a week of holidays) we'll have plenty of time to relax before his job at Kansas University Hospital starts in July.
