I hadn't planned on staying today, but the McKays had extra food and insisted we stay. Nathan was working and Allison was excited to have more time with her friends so we stayed.
"Families having an after worship picnic on the lawn of Wornall Road Baptist under a wonderful shade tree. That tree was a gift of Imogene warren our eldest member when I came to Wornall in 2006. We had fewer than 2 dozen people and no money. Our church lawn looked awful. It was an overgrown mess. Imogene gave over $10k to completely overhaul our very unsightly landscape as a message to the community that something new was happening at this old church. And she always thought there should be a shade tree on the east side of the building - so we planted this one for her. she lived in the blue building across the street and she kept an eye on its growth . We almost lost it the the drought a few years ago. But it survived and thrived. She went to heaven a few years ago after reaching the age of 100. She would be delighted to see young families having a picnic under her tree - though she is gone she is still impacting our community. There is a very important lesson to be learned from a 95 year old who plants a tree she will never fully enjoy herself - she did it for future generations."
