Tulip Festival

Today we traveled two hours outside the city to Wamego, Kansas. We've been there before but this was our first time at the annual Tulip Festival and craft fair. We arrived just as it was opening so it was the perfect time to let Allison get out all the energy she had built up (on the drive) in the bouncy house.

We met up with Mark and Jill Clifton and toured the main square in town, looking at vendors, inspecting quilts (including some made by Jill's mom) in the quilt show, going into the Dutch windmill in the middle of the square, and taking a ride on the kiddie train. Allison really wanted to get her face painted but it was $5 and I knew she'd rub it right off, the line was very long, and I knew she would not sit still enough to get what she wanted. Instead, Jill got out her lipstick and drew a heart of Allison's face. She was thrilled.

 

 

 

 

 

After a few hours of walking around, we headed to Jill's parents house. They live a couple miles outside of the main town. Jill had brought all the elements for a delicious picnic but it was surprisingly cold today so we moved it inside. The sun came up as we were finishing eating and Jill and Mark's son, Jordan, his wife Audra, and son Colin showed up for a visit. Mark had bought a fun bubble maker at one of the booths and the kids loved making bubbles, then running after them.

 

 

Allison slept the entire way home, and we were so grateful. It was a long and busy day, but we had a great time.
