Just when I think I've done most of the fun things in Kansas City, a new one pops up! After Union Station, we went around the corner to Crown Center. We started out by taking the kids to the Under the Sea exhibit because it had a bit of a lull in attendance. Next we went to the Crayola cafe for lunch but the line was really long to get a table so we went for a walk around the shops. My favorite kitchen store, Function Junction, just happened to have a free kid event just starting as we walked by. They made marshmallow play dough (marshmallow, coconut oil, and cornstarch) and let the kids use fun cookie cutters and rollers that they sell in the store. Apparently the store has a kid event every Tuesday!
I don't think the employees realized it was March break because soon after we arrived, a large lineup had formed and within 30 minutes of the event starting, they were out of dough.
After playing with the dough, we headed to the Cafe for lunch. The girls behaved well and didn't seem to be slowing down so we pushed on to Kaleidoscope. This was another new experience for me, but I will definitely be back. Crown Center's main store is Halls (a high end department store), and as a public service project, Halls, through Hallmark, donate scrap paper and cards to Kaleidoscope, a craft and art center for kids. it was such a fun place! There was a black light room to paint in, a crown making station, a puzzle making station, a paint station, sticker station, and anything else you could imagine.
You could get a ticket (for free) for a 40 minute session inside the art zone, then you were ushered out and a new group went in. We went through twice because the girls had so much fun. I think it would be much more enjoyable when it wasn't so packed, but it was still really fun.
